You know, it was interesting totally. And it seems like in this case it was like a Mary Kate and Ashley thing where like one did serious scenes and one did the action shots. I can't wait for their clothing line to come. Out I'm going to buy everything cat. Clothes.

0:44 It's going to be perfect. So this is our episode on A Quiet Place day one. This is like a snack size snack size review, right? A bite sized review. I got there food buns. We did it, but we thought we would talk about it. We recently saw it and you know, we just came back from a break and we were like, you know, we haven't really talked much horror. We enjoyed this movie. Agatha All Along is coming out, so it's going to take up a bunch of our time. So before that, we're like, let's dip our toes in this, yeah. It's just a little fun, and I think that we've both enjoyed the franchise, the two that existed. So we figured, let's not stop from spreading that joy of alien creatures that.

No, not at. All it's. Been very quiet about. So we're issuing a spoiler alert here. If you haven't seen this, we're going to talk about it, so come back later. But let us officially take a bite of A Quiet Place Day One, directed by Michael Sarnovsky and written by Michael Sarnovsky, John Krasinski, and Brian Woods.

3:11 For Sam, an excursion to New York City with her Hospice group goes from a promise to get pizza to the end of the world. Alien creatures have invaded and are murdering anyone that makes noise. She and new companion Eric try to survive in the city that never sleeps. I mean, awesome, yes. Like putting this particular series in a place like New York City, I think is something this franchise series of movies needs, right? I think at the beginning of the movie it says 90 decibels, just the average noise of New York City, which if you've ever been, yes, The smells, the noise, it's all constant, yes.

3:54 Never sleeps. People are screaming all the time. Good screaming. Bad screaming. You never know if it's an actual alien attack or if somebody's just screaming for the fun of it. Exactly, just in the middle of the street. So give me your instant reactions. Instant reactions, Bah Bah, Bah, Bah. I love stuff like this when it's sort of like a prequel to things that have already come out. And what's fun about things like this is there are those little Easter eggs in there, those things that you already know that come to fruition. Lots of things about the aliens, how to destroy them, what they're attracted to. But we're watching someone kind of learn those things for the first time, especially in the first A Quiet Place.

4:36 They know all this stuff already, right? They know that it's the noise. They know that they don't eat the people that they murder. And in this one, we're learning all that, right? So I think as a horror movie, as a prequel, I think it hits all the beats that it's supposed to, and it was definitely enjoyable. Definitely enjoyable. You're killing it tonight. My God, yeah. Oh my God, this guy's on fire. He's rhyming. He's puns. It's horror, you know, This is like my wheelhouse. It's your fave. I love it. Yeah, I agree. I think all of that, yes, 100% agree. I was wary going into this. I mean, cast phenomenal. There's like three people in this movie. But also the actors are amazing. I am always curious about prequels. Are they necessary?

5:20 What are they going to tell us that we didn't already know ahead of time, right? So I think it did a good job on that front of showing when they literally landed. We did get that a little bit in the second one with the our family, the Abbott family and the baseball. I think it. Was during the baseball going to happen? And so in this one setting in New York City, it just raised the tension a little more. I do feel like the first two, specifically the first one had a different feel to it. It wasn't necessarily like action survival, where this one feels more on the action side in survival than the other two. Granted, John Kerzinski isn't doing this one. And for prequel, maybe he wanted to change it up. But yeah, I thought it was good.

6:06 I I thought it still hit the same beats. But I think the question is how many more of these should we get? And they didn't really tell us anything, right, You know? One of the things that you said is that is it adding anything to what we already know or maybe don't know? And I think it doesn't necessarily give us any new information, right. I think actually waiting if if there's going to be a Quiet Place Part 3. I think he said he's working on it. So I'm I'm very curious to see where things from this one pop up in that one. I almost feel like the full payoff of this prequel won't happen until another installment of the franchise.

6:52 It does feel like that's how these movies are working a little bit. It's more like it's playing off of the strength of the first one of giving us no information at all because the people don't really have the information. And there's a beauty and a choice in that that works so well with the first movie. I think with having a prequel, there's this expectation of, OK, like, tell me how this works. And I'm glad it didn't because it's part of the charm that's part of the draw to this movie is that you don't know. I almost don't ever want to know why the aliens are doing what they're doing or like anything like that. Because I feel like it will take that magic away from the first movie, the 2nd movie, the prequel.

7:35 But then again, it's like, do we need more of these? I think I want one more. I think that's a perfect set, right? We need, we need one more having them fully defeat the death Angels, right? That's that's the final thing. It's like, it's almost like they took M Night Shyamalan signs, right? And now they're just stretching it over four different films, right? Whereas in signs they there's the mystery, what's going on? They come down, they figure out water is the weakness, they kill them, right. So that all happens in the one movie where as now we're kind of like building our Armada of OK, we know that I frequency sound waves can make their heads explode. So we're slowly getting there. Right in the second one, there's a radio tower. They send the signal out.

8:18 It kills a bunch of them. Ah, now in the third one we're going to use that as a weapon to. Destroy them. They just need to put it on a bunch of Bose speakers on planes and get that. Bluetooth going baby. Bluetooth will save the world. Hello I. I wonder what song would hit the frequency that would kill. All of I know the exact song what it's I believe in a thing called Love by the Darkness. Oh my God, I was thinking pink Bony club, but just like raise it up just because it's like, you know, our Charlie Xex, but I actually really like. Right. That one part was like, and all their heads. Oh. My God, let us know what song you would want to save the world.

9:00 Any song. Or Mariah just comes out of her bunker and just like. It's a whistle tone. Oh my God, all I want for Christmas. Yes, yes they played. So Noah and I got married on November 5th. Feel free to send us an anniversary card when it comes up. And they played Mariah Carey is All I Want for Christmas at our wedding and everyone lost their effing minds. We were so excited just at the right time. Yeah, because it was November and like, that's when you should start putting Christmas stuff out. So I feel like if it was October, we'd be like, why are you doing this? But it was. Perfect. And I think these so the the later why places take place in October.

9:40 Oh, perfect. So it'll be November by the next one. This is perfect. And then Mariah will come out and destroy them all. I see. I see the vision. It's beautiful, a vision of love. All right, so getting into our 2/3, one of our furry little actors here. But Sammy and Eric, how did you feel about these characters, and how did you feel about Joseph and Lupita? Oh, well, Joseph Quinn is becoming America's sweetheart at this point in time. He captured our hearts and Stranger Things. So the more stuff he pops up and I'm like, Oh my God, it's that a little Angel, Joseph Quinn. Gladiator 2. Hello, Fantastic Four. Get it?

10:21 Fantastic. Forever. Yeah. So I thought he was great. I mean, there's there, there's an imbalance between the characters in the movie, right? Sam is truly our main character. I feel like we're really on this journey with her, and I have to admit that knowing that she was at a Hospice right off the bat, I knew how this movie was going to end. Yeah, right. But I think that's like, personally, I feel like that made me like it more. Does that make sense? I'm not saying it was a bad thing, but the plot, I knew where it was going, Right, right, right. I knew ultimately at the end this character was going to sacrifice himself. It's not about what you get at the end, it's about the journey and the friends we make along the way.

11:02 That's true. And the journey had me like this. Oh yeah, no. So thumbs up. Yeah, I really like them. I thought there was there was even though Sam's character who is, you know, suffering through cancer, terminal cancer and is in Hospice and she knows she's going to die. That's the point of being in Hospice, right? I loved her character because there is this resilience that was still there, even though it was kind of damper down a little bit. Her shine might have dimmed tiny little bit. The apocalypse or the end of the world happening almost lit a fire underneath her. And she was like, I'm dying anyway, so let me go do this one thing that's going to mean so much to me. And I thought that was so beautiful to do.

11:44 And that's, I think the draw for these movies. Right after we saw the the first one, we were like, this not only was terrifying and super innovative, but the human story that was there was so strong. That's what we expect from these movies. And I feel like in Sam and Eric, we got that, and I loved how they played off of each other. There's hardly any dialogue in this, which is very nice sometimes, right? You just get to sit with it. And these actors getting to just play with the scene and showing their emotions and just feeding off of each other, I really, really liked. Yeah. And I think that when it comes to these type of end of the world movies, I mean, is this necessarily considered a dystopian? No, because dystopian is typically after the apocalypse. So this is like the apocalypse happening, end of the world invasion, let's say.

12:30 And there's always the thoughts on humanity of will humanity be good or will humanity be bad, right? And in A Quiet Place Part 2, we see that now there are sections of humanity that are bad, right, that are trying to capture humans, whether they're going to keep them or whatever, right? But this one here, I think that this movie captures so much the good of humanity, especially in Sam and Eric, right? So they're complete strangers and they're put into the situation together and they have to depend on each other. And I think that they're willing to do that because they know this could be the last relationship I have, right? We know that Sam's family has passed away.

13:10 Eric's family is in England. So this is it. He's alone. He's alone. And I think there is something nice that Eric, I mean, Eric doesn't find out that she's dying until they go to her apartment, right? But I think there is some choice in that he makes that is beautiful and nice because she is dying and her wish is to go get pizza at a place that she got pizza at with her dad that was a jazz performer and everything. So I think his choice to do that and make sure she gets that is awesome. And there is a deleted scene, which I'm kind of like bummed they didn't put in, but the movie we got was great, right? And there's a deleted scene where you find out that Joseph Quinn's character is queer and that there was a lot going on. And that's kind of where it led him to that point where we see him coming up from the subway. So we didn't get much of his character, but I think he showed a lot of action of what he either wanted to be. It was almost like the Death Angels. This apocalypse kind of brought out the best of both of them. Exactly.

14:08 And it's like socks. But yeah, what are you going to do? Yeah, I mean, if there's maybe I'm speaking out of turn here, but if there's one thing a gay man loves, it's a it's a strong woman, you know what I mean? So he was immediately drawn to Sam's energy because she just was of had a fighting spirit and I think he felt safe around her. And we saw that with Ruben at the Mariette show, Marionette Show. She, you know, writing the poem about this place is shit and you're finding out that she's like an actual published poet was so funny to me. I'm like, yeah, that's amazing. But you get to see her spirit, right? You get to see how she gives no fucks at all. And it carried through the through the whole thing. I I loved it and I loved her cat so much. I don't, I think adding the extra layer of like having this cat in the movie is terrifying because you're like, nothing better happened to this cat.

15:01 Meanwhile, this cat gives no fucks at all in this entire movie. It's just running around just watching people struggle. Yeah, he's like, OK, I'm fine. This is great. That's like, listen how quiet I am. Ain't no death Angel getting to me. The cat was sort of the the little infant in Part 2. Only the cat could leave whenever it wanted to, whereas the infant was always in that basket. So the cat was just driving us insane the entire time because you were just so scared. And you also knew the cat would be quiet and when it cry all of a sudden it could feed itself. If it was just catching rats, it was fine. It's beautiful cats. Will survive the apocalypse absolutely 100%.

15:42 Do you so quick question, Speaking of surviving the apocalypse, we've covered on this podcast a few like apocalyptic things. Most recently I would say we did Last of Us and not this one. If you could pick either one of those to be in, which one it would it be? Would you rather have aliens that have incredible hearing that can just barrel and destroy everything and have no motive, or a world where a fungus that you can't really stop infects people? I'm going for the Death Angels because I think it would be too hard for me to have to kill a loved one if they were infected. So it's more of like, you know who the enemy is. Yeah, yeah.

16:28 It's kind of like if you and I were here and then you became a Cordyceps zombie, you'd kill me because I obviously wouldn't be able to do it. I wouldn't have a choice. It's not because I wanted to. Why did you get so quiet? Cool. I agree. I think that's a thing like even though like The Last of Us has Pedro Pascal in it, I don't like I either one would have him in not his Joel, but this one I think, particularly for where we live now, would be ideal. Yes, because we could just go to fire Ireland. It's like right there. That's very true and also this movie compounds my fear not only of end of the world, but not being home.

17:17 During the end of the world, neither of them are home. It's like if the end of the world were to come, I would just want to be home. I mean, at least she knew the city, right? Imagine him like he went there for school. Who knows how long he's actually been there, being in a foreign country with nobody there. It's terrifying, My God. Yeah, be dead. Be dead. I'm like, I don't even know where the water is. What is this? Where do I live? Where's the ocean? Where's? The ocean about an island Where's? The ocean, yeah. So I would rather definitely have the Death Angels because at least we know they can't swim. I don't know about sound like I don't know if I have speakers that could do something like that, but like water is right there.

17:57 I think we'd be good. Yeah, that's true. We do live very close to the water so that is a plus for US. Fire Island parties every day. All right, let's. Go so going into something that we kind of tiptoed around or or mentioned a little bit, we didn't get much about the death angels that we didn't already know. You know, there was a part where we saw like some nesting or communication, some communal things happening with them, but it didn't tell us something, which makes sense because again, Eric Joseph Quinn's character is a lawyer, law student, so he wouldn't know what was happening, right? So everything we learned was from the POV of both of these characters. Is that something you're OK with, or did you want more? Or what do you think the nesting was? I think ultimately I was OK with it, right? Kind of being a little dumbfounded like everyone else going through it, not having the answers. Because in reality, how would these characters have the answers?

18:59 You know, these death angels, they don't talk, or at least in a language that we can understand. So it's not like they could talk to each other be like, hey, look at this weird thing we got here. You know, I love this thing. So I think it's fine. Ultimately, again, I I I'm kind of like thinking if the the next movie we'll see if it make if it all makes sense. Yeah, I, I'm really hoping that, again, we don't find out anything about them. I think there is that layer of don't tell me because I think it's really cool and that's part of the shtick, right? I am really curious of what the egg things were because they also started eating them. Well, I.

19:41 Because they don't eat people, which it seems, and it may, I don't know, I'm just going to theorize, right? Maybe they were drawn to the planet because it's so noisy and they're so sensitive with how their biology is that they just want to snuff out all noise. I don't know what they're eating though. Like that just look like some goopy mess that they made. I think they, I think they went on a road trip and they brought snacks. You know what I mean? Like as as you do. They just destroy their in their path. Yeah, that's just their trail mix. That's just what they love to eat. And I think, you know, that is one of the things that makes them so scary is that they're just killing to kill, right?

20:23 You know, they're not killing to eat. And we don't necessarily know their motive of are they killing to inhabit the planet or is it? That's the thing, right? Is it because we don't see them eating the people they just destroy? Like they hear a noise and they just directly to it. So that's what makes me think like they just can't handle it, like it will kill it. Hurts, right? It hurts. It hurts so like destroy it. Yeah, it out. Yeah. So you know, I have a my working theory right now is so in this movie we see Digimon Hansu who appears in Part 2, right. So that's a little breadcrumb of like, all right, so the last time we see them, they're on this boat. Obviously they made it to some island and they've been living there and inhabiting it.

21:11 But in Part 2, we don't see Joseph Quinn or the cat or the cat. So Eric and Frodo are somewhere else. And so I'm thinking that he's going to have a bigger part in the third one. I would like that. I wouldn't because I think we're in Part 2 where we left off Henry, the character that you're just mentioning, he died, question mark. It's not really clear. Like he does get like dragged away by one of the the creatures. So I think it's safe to assume he's probably dead, which does suck. But I am hoping for Eric to come back because that would be nice. Right. And the reason why we didn't see him is because we got his story in the prequel. And then when we see him in part three, it's like, Oh yeah. There he is.

21:52 There's Eric. Yeah, yeah. I'm hoping, yeah. And I'm thinking that he in some way is going to help create the weapon or something that destroys these monsters. Because he did get a good look inside of. Their heads, right? Face their heads. Yeah, yeah. And so he really, and they made sure to like really kind of zoom in on that very inner ear. Because we've. Seen that they have. Like we've seen that in the other one. So it was interesting to have this character specifically look at it so. I guess we'll see. And for the camera to zoom in on that. So he better be a part of the third one because then why the hell else was he in this? Yeah. So before we go snack size, snack size, bite size review I love.

Well, part one, day one, Part 2. Interesting. I would actually do it in the order it came out. So 1/2 day one Gotcha. I, I think the honestly, and I don't want to say this lightly or, you know, just preface this with this, The quiet place, the first one is a near perfect movie, near perfect movie.

23:19 It it really is. It's so good. I think it's just something that like we haven't seen before. Everything in it was just so well done. Yeah, not only did. OK, let's just talk about Emily Blunt's character for a second, OK? She steps on a nail, can't scream. She has a baby, can't scream. Her husband dies. Yeah, OK. Can't scream, Can't scream. Her child dies. In the beginning, can't scream, can't scream. She's been through a lot. And then in the second one, she's leading freaking. Baby. She has the baby with the oxygen mask on and then her son steps on a bear trap. And then Mr. Oppenheimer. Yeah, good old Killian Murphy and the daughter run away somewhere.

24:01 To the island, yes. Yeah, exactly. But Emily doesn't know that, no. That that's all you need to know about the 1st 2:00. I think we just summed them up pretty well. We did. Yeah. So I mean the same, just switch the two. I just think they're so good. I think that the second one did a good job of doing that, but my worry is it's like, OK, we've gotten that story before. We got the human story. We kind of know the beats already of this. So what is going to be in the third one that's really going to change it up or I hope stop it? The third one, yeah. The third one needs to be World War Z. But good. I love World War Z. Yeah. I just think it was set up to be like more than it was.

I just think it was like set up to be more like not just be one movie and it was like they were going to do all this stuff and then it just didn't happen. So that really bummed me out. I do think it's good. I just am bummed about the wasted potential that's. One of those movies that like, if it's on TV I'll be like, oh, World War Z is on and I'll keep watching it. Is that so weird? No, a wild zombie movie that I have very niche taste. I mean, Brad Pitt is also really attractive in that movie, so it's great. I don't blame you. Got that part where they're going up the stairs in that apartment building. Oh, gives me anxiety. Remember when he chops the woman's hand off off.

25:25 Woof. OK. Scary stuff. Highly recommend this movie if you haven't seen it, If you've been waiting to see it, rent it. Wait for going streaming wherever it's playing now. I can't.
